Marketing & Information Staff

I had the privilege of serving as the Manager and Graphic Designer for the Michigan Marching Band’s (MMB) Marketing & Information Staff (MI Staff) for three years. The MI Staff promotes, protects, and propels the public image of the MMB. We created content for all social media platforms (@umichband), produced professional videos, designed graphics, analyzed popular online trends, and determined the best way to keep the MMB current while maintaining the band’s long history of excellence.


Social Media Graphics & Content

As a graphic designer, I create any and all graphics for social media (specialized for each platform), print, and audience engagement. Below are some examples of graphics completed in the 2020 and 2021 season adhering to the MMB brand & identity guidelines but pushing the boundaries to engage with audience of over 80,000 people.


Creative Audience Engagement

I push the MI Staff to consistently develop creative solutions to engage with our audience, bringing them closer to the MMB experience while promoting our brand & image. This campaign of Apple Watch faces emerged in the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to connect with fans when we couldn’t be in person but has stayed a popular project even as we have gotten back to in-person activity! In addition to the watch faces, mock ups, and promotional social media material specialized for each platform, I created a user guide (including assets) on how to install the watch faces to increase accessibility for fans of all ages.


Ensemble Brand Identity

As the MI Staff has grown over the last few years, my goal as manager and a designer is to create a consistent brand identity across all facets of the ensemble. In the summer of 2021, I developed brand identity guidelines for the MMB’s Photo and Video team. I created these guidelines to operate within the MMB’s current Brand & Identity guidelines for a team of volunteers, meaning the delivery needed to be as straight-forward and user friendly as possible.


Website Design

In 2022, with the addition of a full time staff member overseeing the MI Staff, we were able to take on larger projects such as completely overhauling the website design. During this process, I worked to increase readability, create calls to action, and to showcase the energy that being a part of the Michigan Marching Band is all about. Maintaining professional, on brand imagery I was able to aid in adding movement and life to the website overall while focused on creating a more navigable user experience.
